For some reason, there is very little snow in the winter of 2020 on the Shiretoko Peninsula, a special place located in the northernmost part of Japan where rare wild animals coexist with humans. The typical drift ice hasn’t appeared yet, either. Although worried, the inhabitants of the village Shari continue their daily affairs: the shepherd bakes buns, a hunter prepares a dinner with venison, a fisherman picks up trash from the sea and another person observes flying squirrels in her garden. 　　In these rural surroundings, director Yoshigai Nao, who is also a dancer and choreographer, introduces a mysterious, fiery-red creature, like a walking scarecrow. This turns her delicate, documentary observations into an idyllic, yet disquieting fairytale. Folklore, arts and crafts, oral history, ecology, and mythology blend elegantly in this visual poem. Inside the gym, schoolchildren fight the red creature with all their might, Sumo-style, while outside the bears skip their wintersleep.

「草の乱」の神山征二郎監督が名優・三國連太郎を主演に迎え、旧制高校生たちの青春とその後の人生を描いた群像劇。戦前、鹿児島の旧制第七高等学校造士館で学友たちと青春を謳歌した上田勝弥は、卒業後に大学で医学を学び、戦時中は軍医として従軍。戦後に東京で開業した病院も現在は息子に任せ、悠々自適の生活を送っていた。しかし彼は、ある理由から鹿児島にも故郷の熊本にも行くことができずにおり……。

Heartsick from suffering, Orpheus descends into the Underworld to bring his beloved Eurydice who has just died from a snake bite back. The magnificent music played by Orpheus convinces Hades, the god of the Underworld, to free Eurydice, but on one condition: on his way back to Earth, Orpheus must not look back at Eurydice. On finally arriving at the gates of the Underworld, already catching glimpses of trees and bushes, Orpheus looks back. Eurydice disappears forever into darkness. 　　Exterior night. A summer evening on a country road. The headlights of an old vehicle cut through the darkness. This is the original truck from Happy as Lazzaro (2018) , used by the protagonist family in Alice Rohrwacher’s film to collect objects to be resold. It has now been transformed into a travelling cinema with a white sheet hanging from a tubular steel structure forming a screen, like a window looking out onto another world.
